Oxford CPD Days

An exciting new series of CPD days is being set up for the Oxford region. The aim is to provide regular local CPD update days in a rolling programme to address level 2 & 3 CPD requirements. The programmes are predominantly aimed at consultants and career grade anaesthetists; however we will also provide a limited number of places availability for post fellowship trainees.

We plan to organise a CPD day 3-4 times a year.  It is our intention to provide cost effective and comprehensive study days which will focus on the various anaesthetic subspecialties.

We are now ready to take bookings for the following CPD days:

1st October 2018 - Paediatric Anaesthesia CPD Day

(George Pickering Education Centre, OUH)

17th December 2018 - Regional Anaesthesia CPD Day

(George Pickering Education Centre, OUH)

1st March 2019 - Advanced Airway Management CPD Day

(Academic Centre, OUH)

Each day will be charged at £100 for consultants and career grade anaesthetists and £50 for trainees. All monies generated will be used to enhance anaesthetic sub-speciality training in the region and to develop future CPD days.

For more information and booking please visit www.oxfordcpd.com and direct any queries regarding the days to henry@oxfordcpd.com

Lifelong Learning Transition Update 7th August 2018

The RCoA are aware that users are currently experiencing intermittent or slow access to the platform. This often leads to either access being denied or frequent error messages.

They are working with our suppliers to resolve this issue. A solution is currently being tested and this scheduled maintenance is planned to be in place for Wednesday 8 August. Therefore please be aware you are likely to encounter these error messages prior to the fix being applied and therefore we recommend you avoid significant data entry until after the fix.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The old RCoA eportfolio will be switched off in Aug 2019, and registrars are moving from eportfolio to the new platform in cohorts.

All consultants/SAS doctors with existing eportfolio access will be emailed their password for the new platform (please check your junk folder) and will retain access to the current eportfolio until it is switched off.

Lifelong Learning Transition Update 3rd August 2018

The RCoA are part way through the creation of new accounts on the Lifelong Learning platform. However this has been slower than they initially expected, and they apologise for this, and plan for our School access to be created as soon as possible.

The current RCoA eportfolio will be switched off in Aug 2019, and registrars are moving from eportfolio to the new platform in cohorts. All new CT1s, ST3s and ST5s should use the new platform in Aug 2018 as soon as they have access.

All consultants/SAS doctors with existing eportfolio access will be emailed their password for the new platform (please check your junk folder) and will retain access to the current eportfolio until it is switched off.

Prof Tracey in The New Yorker

The July 2nd 2018 issue of The New Yorker features the Head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences Professor Irene Tracey, and her research into the neuroscience of pain. New Yorker journalist Nicola Twilley came to Oxford in February to meet Irene Tracey and find out about her life's work on the neuroscience of pain. The feature length article covers the genesis of Irene's interest in pain, and charts her experiments over the years that have earned her the nickname 'Queen of Pain' in the research community.
