Information for Stage 2 Trainees
STAGE two training
This term is used for the ST4 and ST5 years of anaesthetics training. The expectation during this time is that you will complete the final FRCA in order to progress to ST6. The curriculum for stage 2 training can be found here : https://rcoa.ac.uk/documents/2021-curriculum-learning-syllabus-stage-2/introduction. Each domain has the key capabilities spelled out and the supervision level expected for completion of stage two training.
Within the pages linked above you will also find a list of practical procedures and expected capability.
As a reminder, the HALO guide can be found here:

The key training goal to be aware of in Stage 2 is that you need to complete the key capabilities that are only available in OUH, in your ST4 year, before you move on, and document these via the CCC form. These are obstetrics, cardiac and neuro. Paediatrics can be started but the CCC form does not need to be completed, as there will be ongoing experience in the DGHs. It will be important to document SLEs relevant to the tertiary paediatrics you complete while you are there.
There is one LLP glitch to be aware of. When you complete an SLE that is within a key capability that is linked to the relevant HALO, this SLE will not then pull across to the relevant CCC form. This means you will need to re upload this SLE as a separate supporting document to the CCC in order for your assessor to easily see that you have the required formative assessment.
Stage 2 and stage 2 equivalence
Stage 2 training is signed off by your college tutor/TPD and then regional advisor (Stephen Snyders or his deputies- Ruth Webster, Amit Kalla).
Stage 2 equivalence (A on 2010 LLP, B on 2021 LLP) is most easily evidenced using a gap analysis document. Click here for the gap analysis for the Stage 2 top up year from the RCOA. Then please click here for an example of a gap analysis document submitted for sign off.
