FAQs

WhO signs the equivalence forms?

Stage 1 equivalence forms will be signed off by your educational supervisor and college tutors.

For stage 2 equivalence forms these are signed by your college tutor or training program director and the regional advisor (Dr Snyders) or his deputies (Ruth Webster or Amit Kalla). This may change in the future once we have all adapted.

when should i transition?

Most people will now either have transitioned or know when they plan to. There are a few people who are unsure as their circumstances have changed. Please contact Sara McDouall who can discuss it and contact the College if necessary.

WHat evidence do i need to present for equivalence sign off?

The RCOA has HALO forms for each stage of training which list the skills and competence expected in each domain to allow sign off. They can be found here as appendices 1, 2 and 3 :

At ARCP a trainee recently submitted a document which laid out their proposed transition schedule and each domain with its relevant competency and plan for evidencing this. It is extremely clear and helps both the trainee and trainer visual how/when transition will happen and equivalence be evidenced. The document is attached below as an example, it might be helpful to create a similar personalised one for yourself.

who signs off each domain?

There will be local arrangements for who signs off each domain. At present the RCOA recommends that the Generic Professional Capability domains can be signed off by your educational supervisor, with the exception of the safety and quality improvement domain which should be signed off by someone who has experience and engagement with QIP activities.

The specialty specific domains should have faculty designated to sign off the domains, replacing those who were previously responsible for CUT forms. Please discuss this with your current department; we expect most will compile a list of consultants who can sign of the HALO forms.
